this deer snuck up on us as we were napping in the dunes off the beach at Grayland Beach St. Park...Isabel was curled up next to us and slept through the whole thing, the deer was curious about isabel, not sure if they thought she was a doe or a coyote...

something about this one makes it look like very controlled lighting, and perhaps a stuffed bird in a museum diorama...
really it was just morning sunlight and a cooperative bird

Rufous Hummingbird

It had snowed a bit, but the sun came out, and the hummingbird was having the nectar of the red current bush on the rocks.

This is a cactus in Judy's sunroom. I wonder if it blooms every year, or maybe its just blooming this once, because Judy is in Spain, and it is fitting that while away some miracle is happening at home.

Trillium

The trillium is the true harbinger of spring in the Northwest. Its bright triad of petals, lighting up the forest floor.
Come forward sun, beam your light through these transparent wings. In your honor we reflect back the light and warmth of your gift.
Damn near holy, these fucking trilliums, there everywhere right now.

New Growth

Green as the month of March. I like the contrast of the new bud with the bare branch and thorn. I really punched up the green in the background, not sure if that's the accurate shade, but it looks striking.

I thought the colors on this one would look nice against the black background here.. Just another picture of the spring in waiting out there on these crisp end of winter days. Before you know it the full force of spring will be upon us rushing us headlong into the sun.
